The assignment was to design a layout on InDesign with a story and photos that were provided for us.
For this layout, I was inspired to follow the typical design of a newspaper.
On the top of the page is the headline in large font. I used two fonts on the page that I thought were cohesive. I then placed the headline below the story and the accompanying photos.
The most challenging part of this design was deciding which photos of the commencement speakers I wanted to use. I used all of them but one. I tried to use all of the photographs but I found that I was too constrained by space to use all photographs. In hindsight, I would make the photos smaller so I could fit all five of them.
I aligned all of the items on the page in order to establish clarity. I also made to sure to keep white spaces in between the photographs.
The photographs were all of equal shape so as not to prefer one person over another. Although, Jane Lynch is probably the most well-known commencement speaker I treated her just like the other speakers.
