Black and white can also be fun

Using the varying hues of black on InDesign, I set out to convey an emotion.

I set out to convey the feeling of chaos. Overall, the layout is very symmetrical. The rectangular boxes at the top of the design are evenly distributed. But then I place an oval dark shape at the corner to contrast with the symmetrical design. I hopes this would create an illusion of chaos. The shape should also be a focal point for the viewer.

Also, I tilt the rectangular box on the left to throw off the symmetry and again create a feeling of chaos.

There is a lot of white space in this design. I think the white space also adds to the feeling of chaos because it does not have any consistency and helps guide the readers eye across the design. White space also increases the viewer’s attention to all of the shapes on the page.

Relaxing day

For this assignment, shape and color were used to convey an emotion.

I hoped to convey a feeling of calm. My inspiration was clouds in the sky. I decided to use blue and yellow, which are complementary colors. Together, blue and yellow make green so I decided to also add that color. By using complementary colors, I think the feeling of calm is more palpable.

I also used shape to give a feeling of calm. When I look up at the sky and see the clouds, I also feel more relaxed. I attempted to replicate the shape of the clouds by using overlapping oval shapes.

In an effort to create contrast, I decided to place layered inorganic circles on the page that are still complementary to the rest of the page. The worst thing you can do is create contrast that is too obvious. This is still calming, but also creates a focal point and makes the page a bit more exciting.
